I cannot believe how I didn’t get word of this campaign until a couple of days ago… Tonight, and thanks to my friend Nemr Abou Nassar and his radio show, I understood what the “Save Aya” campaign actually is. When I logged on to their Facebook page, I was alarmed to see JUST 37 friends who like the page and a mere 1,740 people who like it total.
For a cause so dire, that was unacceptable. That is why I am joining my voice to the voices of dozens of others campaigning to save this little girl’s life. Aya was born with a liver disease. At only 13 years of age, she can no longer fight the liver problems, and will no survie without a $50000 liver transplant.
50000USD is petty change when it comes to the amounts and figures we see squandered everyday on the news. We waste millions and billions of dollars each year on much less urgent and mediocre causes. Aya needs 50000USD, which is a lot of money for an average Lebanese family in these uncertain times. But if 500 people donate a $100, or 5000 donate just $10, heck, even if 10000 people donate a mere $5, we can raise the money in no time.
So far, we’re almost at the 50% mark, hovering near 25,000USD after Nemr’s show attracted a whopping 6100USD from generous donors.
So, donate online NOW. Wire the money to the Save Aya account. Or head to ABC Ashrafieh or Citymall to the CashUnited stands, where donation boxes are available.
The sooner the money gets collected, the more the chances that Aya will survive and lead the long, healthy, normal life she deserves.
