The Weekly Leaks: La Creperie, Sky Bar and Sky Management – Setting The Record Straight and Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

My Dearest Readers,

In light of my Blacklisting Sky Bar a few weeks ago for the deteriorating door policy, many seem to think I’m just another cynical nobody blogger fishing for some attention. For those of you who have the fortune (or misfortune =P) of knowing me live, I’m sure you agree that is NOT the case. In fact, I was, and hope to become again, a faithful customer of Sky Bar and most Sky Management events.

Not because I am a self-proclaimed member of the elite or whatever you neo-communists might argue, but because I love the venue, most of the resident DJs, many employees are childhood friends and I find it rare to have a bad night on the BIEL rooftop with the 1 million USD Sky Management (according to CEO Chafik El Khazen) spends on entertainers from abroad.

In previous posts, I challenged you guys to send me proof that Sky Bar was indeed #1 club in the world, for my search left me hanging dry several times. However, I have received confirmation from Sky Management and I am publishing it now. It turns out Sky Bar was indeed #1 on WorldsBestBars.com, but had voluntarily pulled themselves out citing poor management of the site and infrequent updates as the cause (considering until recently, the site still listed the long-dead Crystal club).

Below is a snapshot of the 2008 results on WBB

Sky Bar is also of course cited in several international magazines, most prominent of which is Newsweek and GQ, where Sky Bar is listed as their 14th favorite bar.

La Creperie Good News

Here are clarifications made available by the guys at Sky Management, and I must say, I’m glad I got them

  • Sky Management has leased La Creperie for a period of 10 years. La Creperie is still owned by Sky Management CEO Chafik El Khazen’s uncle. So, it has not been sold as I previously pointed out here. (might be prudent to point out the post on Blog Baladi by Najib about this issue too, go here)
  • The name will remain La Creperie
  • The venue will be revamped, but I was promised most of the menu, especially the crepes, will remain untouched
  • Les Caves of La Creperie will also be reopened, something that has been long overdue!
  • The one thing that remains to be seen, is what the “Sky Management” touch will be exactly. I’m hopeful though, and was assured I’d be spending another Valentine’s Day there again!

What Does This Mean?

It means I’m not hiding anything! If my aim was to attack one party or establishment and glorify another, this post would never have happened. I’d like to thank Sky Management for taking the time to read and respond to my posts and leaks, and providing me with the information I needed. I also hope my criticism will be taken constructively, and I guess the only way to find out will be on Septemeber 19th, 2011, when I will try to reenter Sky Bar for the first time for the Donner Sang Compter fundraiser.

i find it kinda weird for skybar to be listed number one wit emphasis on its FOOD(notice the fork n spoon next to the name on the list)…i duno bout u guys but thats wat i think…

  3. Sky Bar: Responsible for a lot of great memories says:

Yana’s post about Sky Bar was also very ridiculous and filled with hate (making her a hater). She may be a good writer but everything she says is exaggerated and based on a few experiences and hear-say. If you want a real depiction of Sky Bar, ask someone who’s been there more than three times! Sky Bar put Lebanon on the map as the number one party place in the Middle East. This helped the economy and the tourism industry big time… so i don’t think you should be that disrespectful. And Yana, if you think the music is “commercial” you have an UNLIMITED NUMBER of places you can go other than Sky.

I personally think that they’ve blackmailed you,the management of Skybar for defamation ,that’s why you changed your mind about Skybar, then the La Creperie thing ,how can you upload a post about La Creperie closing then opening back after 10 days ,other blogs have corrected the rumor about La Creperie closing before you and you were one of the first to tell that La Creperie is closing , second you listed a number of reasons why you don’t like Skybar ,fair enough ,then you changed your opinion again ,ka2anak te3badon , w ra7 terka3 edemon, get this right Skybar sucks and their music sucks ,it has no unique style ,and the music is like listening to some random radio station ,the people make Skybar cool not the music nor the background ,I personally prefer to go to a pub and chill to great music and artists then to go to Skybar where fake meets empty gossip
