Poll of the Week: Drive-In Cinema in Beirut?

I personally am hating theaters in Lebanon lately, the jacked-up prices, the crappy 3-D glasses, the annoying kids, everything… You sometimes see those cool drive-in cinemas where you just pull into a big parking lot, hook up your sund system, and enjoy a movie in the comfort of your car. There used to be one in Beirut, in font of Buddha Bar, but it closed down. Wouldn’t it be cool to have another one? I wanna know, would you guy attend?

Also, 67% of you can vote next elections… So, I’m really excited about the upcoming project!

In 98, when Johnny Rockets opened in Lebanon, they used to have one (that’s the one you are referring to). Ultimately it did not work, and the whole concept shut down!

It might be interesting in a more secluded location where there is no highway and traffic.

To enjoy a great movie, the trick is to go to the 1st screening (2:45 PM – 3:00 PM) on a weekday.

The prices are much cheaper, and you will most likely not have a lot of people in the theater, hence enjoying the experience to the max.

When you want to WATCH a movie (no distractions), go alone. You’ll enjoy it more!

    Cheers!

I know! Cheapest screening is always the best. But don’t you think somewhere outside beirut is risky?

It really depends on the location itself. Beirut would definitely generate more traffic and revenue, but the question is: would people continue coming on the long-run? They’d come the 1st time to “try it”. After that, they might not, especially if the purpose is to actually enjoy the movie. So the whole traffic creates noise and disrupts the whole movie ambiance, then I think a more secluded area is more interesting. I’m not saying somewhere as secluded as Kornet el Sawda :P
I think on the long run, something like that would work rather than a one month success story due to the buzz and hype. MANY concepts worked super well the 1st couple of months because everyone wanted to try them, and ended up failing or even shutting down. I vote for stability and something consistent.

Not to be too negative, but I believe Drive-ins are a great idea yet a failed product.
I’ll definitely go there once it opens for maybe once or even twice, but it’ll just pass.

Its a nice idea, but i think (without SUPER security patrols) it might turn into another Marina Dbayeh (i think this is how it is mostly portrayed in movies)
