Brofessional Review: Vigilantes of the Lebanese Ad World Raise A Red Flag on Iconic BUZZ Commercial

videos-qui-buzz-buzzpubmov_-oiez_0If you’re into the ad world, you might wanna stop by Brofessional Review every now and then. They tackle everything that has to do with advertising campaigns in Lebanon. Whether its print, TV, billboards, etc. they’re on it, giving their 2 cents, whether bashing or applauding, as well as keeping an eye out for the easy-way-out agencies take sometimes by copying an already successful campaign in a different country they think we won’t ever see (umm, YouTube?)

One particular finding that really disappointed me was the Buzz commercial, which made the phrase “3adeeee, ca va, mesh enno…” famous (don’t worry, not the mashewe one!). It turns out it’s practically the same as a Mello Yello ad,  a US beer. Now, the creative behind the concept explained her position, and it’s up to you guys to decide if what she’s claiming is true (it does happen sometimes, ideas can evolve in parallel and look very much alike, especially in science at least!)

Here are the two videos:

Special thanks to the guys at Brofessional Review and @figo29 for bringing this to our attention!

After looking into the matter further, I realize that I read it on BlogBaladi first! (THANKS NAJIB <3)

The MENA Cristal festival groups ad agencies from across the Middle East and North Africa region for 3 days of panels, conferences and workshops that culminate in a gala dinner when the Cristal prizes are announced, chief of which is ad agency of the year.

MENA Cristal has always had very interesting guests, with Emanuelle Beart (sexy french actress), Mikhail Gorbachev (leader of the former USSR) and Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia CEO and founder). This time around, it’s gonna be Red Bull’s first man to get to the sound barrier while free-falling: Felix Baumgartner, on February 7.

Minister Sehnaoui Instagramming 4G Tests in Beirut + Your Chance to Win 1 of 200 4G Dongles!

After Minister of Telecommunications Nicolas Sehnaoui’s account started following me on Instagram I followed back and got an extremely pleasant surprise: Tests of 4G mobile Internet in Lebanon… This is awesome, but I really, really, really, really, really hope the data cap will be MUCH greater than what we’re used to. After all, what’s the point of lightning speed Internet if you can’t use it?

Looking back to my mobile Internet experience in Lebanon, it wasn’t that shabby compared to T-Mobile here in the US for example. However, the prices are still way too high and the data caps are extremely low. Unlimited data plans is what we want, not necessarily on 4G speeds, 3G will do, just make it unlimited your excellency!

Be the Minister Game

Also, the Ministry has launched a game onlie: BeTheMinister.com where you answer a few questions about the ministry’s progress in the past few years (price reductions, subscriber increases, etc. which are in the reports that are embedded in the game’s home page, so don’t worry if you don’t already know them) and you enter the draw to “become minister for one day” and a chance to win 1 of 200 4G dongles to be the BETA testers of the brand new 4G network in Lebanon. Sweet deal, I already finished it *fingers crossed* it would be cool if I were a minister for a day =D
