Sometimes, I tend to forget Red Bull is just an energy drink, and I think that’s awesome. It’s awesome because they focus a lot of time and money and effort on doing events that are actually the standard in many sports and entertainment fields. It’s not about selling their products per se, since everyone is always welcome to their events (you don’t need a code, or a can, etc. to gain access) and they give out Red Bull for free at those events (if you want some of course).
Jumping from the edge of space, breaking the sound barrier, car park drifting competitions, DJ academies, breakdance meets, band bedroom jam competitions, air shows… I can keep going, but you get the idea. Apart from helping me get through my AUB overnights as well as being able to pass it off as a cocktail when I’m out clubbing (not a big fan of alcohol, so some RB with ice is usually what I’m holding =P), I love what they do and how the focus is on making the actual event awesome, and then, indirectly, making the RB brand more awesome in people’s eyes.
It’s sorta like Google’s philosophy: make awesome products for free (in RB’s case, events) and people will want to use the Internet more (in RB’s case, do what they do best more) and as a result Google Ads will be seen more, be relevant to users and ultimately generate revenue (in RB’s case, let RB’s products and spirit be seen more, allow folks to realize their dreams and potential in their field, and ultimately makes the brand closer to people’s hearts and thus good business).
So, starting tomorrow, you can make your own #GivesYouWings artwork. It’s a campaign the Red Bull guys and gals in the Middle East are doing as part of a global RB campaign that (I’m told in somewhat confidentiality =P) might land you awesome surprise prizes by the Wings teams (the lovely young women in the awesome RB Minis that make sure you don’t get thirsty waiting in lines at events, walking in Gemmayzeh, etc.)
