Ammar: The Hero Who Saved a 9-Year-Old Boy Stranded on the Faraya’s Refuge Slope

ZHrVLWjEKjlXkoR-556x313-noPadJust wow. People like Ammar make me restore faith in humanity. After 9-year-old seasoned skier Adel was stranded on the ski lift with rough winds and all alone, Ammar stopped the lift he was operating and clambered up on the ski lift, with his bare hands used the steel cable to get to the trolley with the stranded child. He was able to save him in time from a 12-meter drop.

Adel’s mom has set-up a change.org petition to help pressure Faraya’s ski slope administration to improve their safety standards and procedures. Here’s an excerpt of the story and the petition:

…One of Faraya Mzaar’s controllers (on his 3rd day on the job) working in the nearby button-lift (tire-fesses) took initiative. He stopped his station and ran across to the ski lifts.

This man, Ammar, reached the nearest pole to Adel’s lift and climbed-up. He then used his bare hands to dangle his body from the cable and made his way across 10 meters to reach Adel’s chair. He pulled Adel back up onto the chair and back to safety. This man saved our son and if it weren’t for him, we cannot imagine what could have happened if he hadn’t….

Thank you Ammar, from all of us!

Lebanon’s Virtual Museum of Censorship

NOW-YOU-KNOW-2-TO-WEBSo, y’all know how I hate censorship and bans of ANY sort. Remember when Gaga got banned for a couple of weeks? I became her number 1 fan, blasting “Judas” in my care just to for the hell of it. No priest, sheikh or government employee should be able to tell you what you can and cannot read, listen to, watch, etc.

The website is crowd-sourced and you can submit an entry yourself, which makes me wonder how accurate some entries are. Most though, are genuine as far as I can tell, and some of the entries are shocking. Frank Sinatra is among them for example. I’m sure tons of you adore him, and a LOT of people choose “My Way” as their wedding song or whatever. It’s actually banned for “zionist leanings” -__-

It’s neatly divided into categories, which are then organized on a timeline basis from the 1940s till the present, making it very easy to navigate and browse.

Understandably, they don’t offer the banned materials free online, something I really want to do. So, if you happen to have any of the books, movies, music you feel should be seen by folks back home who don’t have the time to search for it themselves, please share it with me.

Here are a few slides showcasing how it all works.
