DOTS Addresses: Lebanese Addresses Made Easy

Giving out your address in Lebanon is a nightmare. None of us know street names, and barely anyone knows their building number. It’s usually “after the blue gas station, next to the pharmacy, past the roundabout, then count to 10 and you’re there” which isn’t really the best way to get to somewhere you’re not familiar with, much less punch it into your GPS or Google Maps.

DOTS addresses are trying to make sharing your address easier, with an alphanumeric code you can share, that people can punch in and get directions immediately.

I think it’s an ambitious step towards trying to make getting to your destination more reasonable in Lebanon, and the key will be getting as many people on board as possible. If you’re not into copy-pasting coordinates from Google Maps, this is a much easier way to do it…

Dots Addresses is a virtualized coding system based on Lebanon’s ground address. Our plan is to make it grow with the ground system that will be created in Lebanon. It allows us today to have a simpler addressing system than what exists. We are open for discussion :)

Well, finally. It’s hell getting around places in this country. I’m downloading the app as I write this. Thanks for the heads up.
