TRON Legacy Pre-Release Review and Competition

If I had to choose one word to describe TRON Legacy, it would probably be: delicious.

The immaculate graphics of the world set inside a computer, all in glorious 3D, give you an urge to reach out and touch the smooth, shiny, perfect surfaces. The illuminated suits, the cycles, the discs, the architecture, the interior design and everything else look absolutely brilliant. For computer generated imagery fans, you will be more than satisfied with the sheer amount of effects, which even encompass the characters themselves, with two Jeff Bridges playing on screen: modern-day Jeff Bridges, and Jeff Bridges almost three decades younger as CLU.

I don’t want to spoil anything for you and all I can say is that I’m going to go watch it again when it is released. The Sci-Fi genre desperately needed an epic movie, and TRON exceeded my personal expectations. Honestly, with all the hype and build-up, I expected to be disappointed. On the contrary, it was even better than I imagined. Lots of critics were a bit harsh, but that is to be expected for such a blockbuster movie. Don’t be swayed by those, after all, you’re watching a movie, not a shakespearian-age, boring play.

The story line is very deep and leaves tremendous room for introspection on the issues raised. However, it is not very preachy nor too loaded with political messages, but still manages to point out one essential thing: that perfection is actually imperfection, a statement we encounter everyday of our lives in our increasingly connected and digital lives.

CLU is the program Flynn senior created to make the digital world “perfect”, and turns into a fascist-type authoritarian with his followers lit up in red or orange, while the neutral, idle programs remain in white or blue lit suits. Sam, Kevin’s son, somehow manages to get from the real world onto the grid, and goes on a journey in the digital world that has epic battles, funny scenes and of course a little bit of romance with Olivia Wilde’s character: Quorra.

That’s all I’m saying. Go watch this movie, I seriously recommend it. Also, add to the sublime visuals the superb Daft Punk soundtrack, and you get absolute perfection.

TRON will be released on December 23rd in cinemas across Lebanon

AND the good people at Italia Films want me
to give away TWO Daft Punk TRON Legacy soundtracks. All you have to do is go watch the movie on the 23rd of December, and wait for me to ask you a specific question about a scene or two in the movie =D

Ferry Corsten, Lange and Solarstone BNL Interviews

The big three will be in Lebanon in less than a week, and they’re as excited as we are!

Make sure you’re there on November 27th…

RSVP to the Poliakov Presents Ferry Corsten event on Facebook

Ferry Corsten

erry’s fascination with electronic music began when he was only 16 years old. 21 years later, he is one of the shapers of today’s Trance music, and continues to produce, remix and host events for millions of fans worldwide.

Ferry’s love story with Lebanon began in 2006, when he founded his very own label and released his second album: L.E.F. (Loud Electronic Ferocious). Beirut was L.E.F’s most prominent stop, comparable only to Amsterdam and New York legs of the tour.

At this early stage in Beirut’s career as one of the world’s party capitals, Ferry fell in love with the Lebanese crowd and Lebanon was enamored with Ferry’s immaculate Trance music.

Now, five years after visiting Lebanon for the first time, Ferry’s back for more and Beirut’s as eager as ever.

Solarstone

Solarstone has fast become one of Lebanon’s favorite DJs over the past year. His debut with Ferry Corsten in 2009 earned him a lot of respect from Lebanese crowds. In an exclusive interview before the November 27 big day, Solarstone had a lot to tell the Lebanese people and a exciting announcements for everyone planning on being at the Forum de Beyrouth next Saturday!

The first thing we quizzed Solarstone about was what he thought and felt about the Lebanese party scene. To our utmost delight, Solarstone had this to say “I was totally blown away by last year’s Twice In A Blue Moon party in Beirut, the crowd was incredible, very receptive and enthusiastic. I think over in the West there is a lot of apathy towards edm, whereas in places like Lebanon it is still a young and exciting scene, it’s not taken for granted, which makes it a very appealing place to play.”

Lange

Lange is an old school Trance name that unlike others, has kept his creative engine churning out melodic choruses and magnificent buildups for almost 15 years. The British sensation has several Trance anthems under his belt, as well as dozens of compilations with the like of legends Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk.

Lange’s visit to Lebanon on November 27th with Ferry Corsten will be his first, and here’s what he had to say about that in an exclusive interview with Beirutnightlife.com: “It’s always exciting to play in a country for the first time.  I know Lebanon is one of Ferry’s favorite places to play (and eat!) and he’s not the only one to tell me the crowds are incredibly passionate there, so I can’t wait!
