Geico’s Dracula Loves The Lebanese

Geico is an insurance company, and their ads have become a bit more sufferable now that they’ve somewhat moved on from the CGI gecko they were famous (or infamous) for. I thought you guys would enjoy this, which is being show quite a lot on several basic and cable TV stations I flipped through.

DSC will also like this ad =P

Aishti Reuses Old Greeting Cards

Now, lotsa folks might be surprised why Aishti would save up on printing their greeting cards when they’re such a lucrative company in Lebanon’s fashion retail industry. I for one, wasn’t so much outraged/disappointed at that, but happy they chose to recycle and reuse excess material instead of just throwing it and adding to our endless mountains of garbage.

Undercover Durex Deliveries via iOS App in Dubai

Screen shot 2013-01-31 at 8.03.48 AM

You read that right. It seems Dubai has been chosen as the country to debut this business model (if it can be called that) on a scale larger than university campuses. Durex and Buzzman have teamed up to create this inconspicuous delivery service, which, if you believe their TVC, will include everything from undercover pizza delivery boys, to cops!

Basically, you can either use the iOS app (where’s the Android one, HMMM?!) or their website to set your location and you can have your choice of condoms delivered to you between 4:00PM and 4:00AM (so no morning quickies for you Emiratis!)

Privacy is taken care of and as mentioned before, the delivery boy can come disguised as a pizza delivery boy, a cop or annoying tourists depending where you are and what you’re doing. I mean, who delivers pizza to a club? An elderly tourist couple or cop might be more appropriate then.

Payment is by cash on delivery, which I’m not sure will fly too well if people think you’re bribing cops (unless you’re in Beirut, which is fine!) and buying off old grandma tourists. Jokes aside though, I think it’s an awesome idea promoting safe sex in such a real-world setting.

Apps and interactive websites are cool marketing course case studies, but they don’t put condoms on your table… Until now. I’m personally bummed Beirut wasn’t the first city to debut this project, but, there’s a page on their website where can vote for the next city we want this advanced technique to be implemented, so VOTE BEIRUT!

Enjoy my dearest Dubai peeps!

Here are screenshots of the app, and the download link from the App Store. And here’s their website.

Brofessional Review: Vigilantes of the Lebanese Ad World Raise A Red Flag on Iconic BUZZ Commercial

videos-qui-buzz-buzzpubmov_-oiez_0If you’re into the ad world, you might wanna stop by Brofessional Review every now and then. They tackle everything that has to do with advertising campaigns in Lebanon. Whether its print, TV, billboards, etc. they’re on it, giving their 2 cents, whether bashing or applauding, as well as keeping an eye out for the easy-way-out agencies take sometimes by copying an already successful campaign in a different country they think we won’t ever see (umm, YouTube?)

One particular finding that really disappointed me was the Buzz commercial, which made the phrase “3adeeee, ca va, mesh enno…” famous (don’t worry, not the mashewe one!). It turns out it’s practically the same as a Mello Yello ad,  a US beer. Now, the creative behind the concept explained her position, and it’s up to you guys to decide if what she’s claiming is true (it does happen sometimes, ideas can evolve in parallel and look very much alike, especially in science at least!)

Here are the two videos:

Special thanks to the guys at Brofessional Review and @figo29 for bringing this to our attention!

After looking into the matter further, I realize that I read it on BlogBaladi first! (THANKS NAJIB <3)

Social Media at Work and School [INFOGRAPHIC]

So, we all use social networks, and most of us a lot. Here’s a really cool infographic that goes into whether or not it’s worth it, how much we spend on it and what effect it has. I thought it would be cool to share, especially for my readers who are into marketing and social media. Maybe this boom we’re all happy about it, isn’t as good as we think…

Special thanks to LearnStuff.com for this awesome infographic

“Bite Your Lips” Group Goes Viral

So, whenever I see something like this, I get extremely skeptical. It’s either a marketing campaign trying to go viral, or a marketing student somewhere trying to do good on a project. Of course, I investigated and found out that, to my surprise, it isn’t.

It actually started as a gag on one of those infamous WhatsApp groups you have with your friends. We all have one of those, helps keep your old friends close when you’re continents apart. However, I must confess, I would probably never want the stuff in our group published =P Here’s what one of the admins told me:

Most of us live in London and all of us are already working either in finance or as entrepreneurs. All this to tell you that we are not into any kind of marketing or psychological social experiment. It genuinely started as a fun spontaneous initiative.

Walid Jalkh

Biting one’s lip is something sexy, so I’m not sure why not enough girls pull off the sexy pose I made on the Empire State! Now, what started as goofing off between Walid Jalkh, Nicolas Hindi and their friends, sorta did what people often find hard to do purposefully: go viral.

This though, poses the question “Why?” and that’s exactly what the guys are trying to figure out. Maybe it’ll become a HONY-style project of featuring photos of people living in the city, sort of like snapshots of their lives/work/etc. in a particular place and time.

This is obviously going strong and we are trying to channel this energy into something cool and fun but more purposeful. We have been taken a little bit by surprise with the way this has spread so rapidly. I hope you also will bite (your lip ;) ) into this

Walid Jalkh

Till then, make it funny. Who knows? Maybe one of the photos will have the potential to become a meme. This just goes to prove that going “viral”, at least in a particular location, is something very tough to forecast. Who would’ve thought PSY’s Gangnam Style would have some 600,000,000 views?! Sometimes, stuff with no purpose go viral, so making use of the popularity is the tricky part.

Anyway, if you were wondering, I hope this post answers your questions and puts your doubts and fears to rest =P

Cheyef 7alak: Sectarian Upbringing

This video was released by Cheyef 7alak a few days ago. They’re the people who are naming and shaming stupid and reckless drivers, and have gone a step further in highlighting the bad and corrupt in this country.

It’s so sad that in 2012, people still believe. What’s sadder is not that they believe in Gods and whatever, but that the quality of their lives, morals and social skills dip and create a precursor for the retards that burn tires and shoot each other up for whatever deity they believe in (it’s usually a god sprinkled with some poverty, illiteracy and a pinch of petrodollars).

The video might seem stupid and naive, but I am absolutely certain some of you people believe what these kids are saying and think the exact same way. Maybe when you see this, you will realize how stupid you are being and stop following old men in black robes and funny hats and follow the only man who can pull that off: Darth Vader! Woot woot!

But seriously, it’s a painfully true and embarrassing video, and I hope you won’t raise your kids that way some day…

FASHAL – Before/After Penis Pro Extender

Look at the ladies’ expressions before and after, hahahaha! I love newspapers that run these ads.

Bye Bye Illegal Billboards!

In November 2011, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel announced all illegal advertising billboards in Lebanon would be dismantled. Of course, we’re in Lebanon and the year ended, with the Times-Square-like, eye-soar billboards still all over the place. BUT, looks like the process of removing them has begun, with several billboards on the northern entrance to Beirut (Jal El Dib – Dora) blacked out or painted over in preparation to be removed.

Here are a few pics I took earlier today. Congrats everyone, here’s to a little less clutter on our streets. They used to entertain us in the legendary traffic jams though… And I guess the companies who paid for their ads on the billboard won’t be too happy!

MAD Beirut’s Video: Nailed It!

After you’ve read my opening review of MAD, watch this video. This is the second video the guys make, after last year’s White Beirut video, which absolutely nails what life and love is like in Beirut! This one might be a bit more. Definitely an ad WIN!

Here’s the White video too

FASHAL – The Burger Bar or Johnny Rockets?

The Burger Bar logo seemed veeeeery familiar (I remember stuff that have to do with food well). And today, it ht me! A Google search later, and voila! They could’ve at least changed the color scheme =\

Interesting fact: Johnny Rockets used to be open in Beirut, Ashrafieh some 13 years ago, which makes it sorta recognizable to most people over 20-25… An even BIGGER mistake. Thanks MM for the info =D

Ad WIN: The Shawarma DJ

I LOVED this video! The YouTube page say it’s Nineteen84 and Intaj created it for Shawarma Republic, a new place in town which I’m trying it out this weekend with Hady, who graciously shared this video with me yesterday and made my day!
