The global pandemic has been making the rounds in Lebanon for a few weeks, with the first death in Lebanon related to COVID-19 announced today. With schools, universities and most public places closed till at least later this month (to try and contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus) a most of us have a lot of time on our hands, sitting at home.

Universities are giving their courses online, offices are encouraging their employees to work from home, sporting events have been postponed till further notice, movie theaters are shuttered up and pubs and clubs have been forced to close down. As a result, many people are preferring to stay home unless they absolutely have to go out.

That’s when I saw Terranet’s latest campaign, embedded below.

The Lebanese ISP is giving an extra 50GB of bandwidth for their ADSL subscribers, free of charge. Being stuck at home, the ability to stream and browse online is not just fun, it’s essential during these difficult times. People working or taking classes online will need the extra bandwidth for meetings, lectures and corrections. For once, it’s refreshing to see a campaign that’s actually useful, not like so many making light and trying to benefit from this difficult test for Lebanon and the entire world.

For people not studying or working from home, who would say no to an extra 50GB to stream movies, music or better yet: back up your data and update your apps? When Alfa and Touch still charge us 7 cents PER MEGABYTE, I love everything about this campaign.
